BankerGirl’s Week in Review 12.14.07
Every Friday I link to a few of the best finance articles on the Interweb. Here are my picks for the week:
- At MSN Money, Liz Pulliam Weston provides her insights into the sub-prime mess and how to fix it in her article, Let’s punish the lenders of easy credit. I particularly like the idea of making education mandatory for sub-prime borrowers. Credit counseling should not just be for those who are already in trouble.
- Cathy at Chief Family Officer wrote about her best financial move of the year: An Infrequent Bills Account. I think that this is a great idea and plan to pitch it to my fiancé at our First Annual State of the Union Financial Summit that is slated for the first week of January.
- Check out the reasons Why December is the Best Time to Visit Your Local Thrift Store at Not Made of Money. I have never been much of a thrift store shopper (I’m freakishly tall for a woman and I can seldom find my size), but I think I may head out to the local Goodwill while I’m finishing up my holiday shopping and see if I can find any deals.
- I suppose this could be considered schadenfreude, but I don’t care - for some reason I take comfort in knowing that I’m not the most financially irresponsibile person in the world. Check out this great post by Jeremy at Generation X Finance entitled Santa Isn’t Coming This Christmas Because There Isn’t Any Home Equity to Tap Into. And be extra-nice to Jeremy, he linked to my piece on Reading The Fine Print in his weekly wrap-up.
- Finally, my favorite online article of the week isn’t related to personal finance. It’s from the New York Times’ Andrew Martin, who asks If It’s Fresh and Local, Is It Always Greener? As someone who frequents the local farmers’ market religiously, this piece caused me to reflect on my own “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” self-righteousness. Next spring I’ll be riding my bike more and driving less.
That’s it for this week. The holidays snuck up on me this year, so I’ll be doing my Christmas shopping and baking this weekend. How about you?
Stumble it!

Thanks so much for the mention! I hope your fiance agrees - I really think it could have saved us thousands if I’d started when we first got married.
