Another Ninja Bill!
Good thing we didn’t use the gift cards I mentioned in my holiday windfall post on a refrigerator - our dishwasher stopped working earlier this week and we used the home improvement store gift cards to replace it.
I know that a dishwasher may seem like a luxury item, but since my fiancé does all of the dishes in our house, and he since felt strongly that it would be cheaper to replace than repair, we bought a new dishwasher. Besides, the gift cards were a gift to him, not “us” - so I’m glad that they went towards something he wanted.
I feel good about the purchase that we made, even though it was entirely unplanned. We bought a white, plain-jane model, no fancy bells or whistles or settings. We paid $64.24 out of pocket, with tax. We are very grateful for those generous gift cards - they made this unexpected expense totally manageable. Now we just have to pray that the fridge doesn’t go out before the wedding.
This is our fourth “ninja bill” already this year (”Ninja bill” is a term I borrowed from RacerX. A ninja bill is an unexpected expense - something most people would dip into an emergency fund to pay for).
I hope the rest of 2008 doesn’t go like January - otherwise we’re going to be honeymooning in our own backyard!
Stumble it!

As the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.” Hopefully, the sun will come out soon for you

Darn Ninja!
Thanks for the mention. I hope the fridge works out, but once you have that and you Emergency Fund done, you will really rest much easier!
